Dogwood Studio will open its studio spaces, and will feature an exhibit by Catherine Armbrust entitled, Altars & Icons.
This show kicks off the fundraising effort for The Lake Chapala Projects—a creative endeavor in Mexico set to begin in autumn 2014. The works in Altars & Icons embrace ornamental strata of color, pattern, and texture to transform the familiar into the surreal. Diverse components such as paint, craft materials, latex, wax, honey, synthetic hair, and stickers fuse together within vibrant compositions, providing juxtapositions between what is simulated and genuine. Like the shrines and reliquaries that inspired them, these works honor the uncanny—attempting to grasp the illusive and contain the mysterious.
Recommended! No matter the media, Catherine has fun, colorful pieces—check it out! Check out the other open artist spaces also. Snacks are usually available at Dogwood Studios during Artrageous Fridays.
