Parking: Parking is free downtown from 6 pm. Also, the parking garage at Hitt and Cherry Streets will be closed this weekend.

If you are new to this and/or want an idea of where to go, you can visit the many venues on Ninth Street by starting at Broadway or the Columbia Art League, which is adjacent to the Missouri Theater. On Broadway, between Ninth and Hitt St are more venues. The block of Tenth St north of Broadway has Jazz Series & CAT TV. Then near Walnut and Hitt Sts. are PS:Gallery and Orr Street Studios, with Dogwood in the alley between them and Broadway.

89.5 KOPN
KOPN Columbia Missouri 89.5 fm will feature photographers Kay Allen, Peter Anger & Dan Hemmelgarn during Artrageous this Friday as well as provide refreshments from Broadway Brewery.

Artlandish Gallery
Artlandish honors artist Rex Bandy during the July Artrageous. Rex passed away recently. Rex had a story to tell through his art. He loved women, dogs, teepees, the armed services, rivers, eagles and much more. He included everything he loved in his paintings, often in the same painting.

Bluestem Crafts will present music by “Dave & Dyno with the Roadkill Orchestra” featuring employee Heather Marlene Wilson. Come enjoy bluegrass and cover songs along with refreshments on July 18th.

Columbia Art League
For the July Artrageous Friday, CAL will be recreating a mini Art in the Park for kids featuring the facepainter, Ines Hernandez, and the balloon-animal magic of Jason Hollandsworth. They will unpack the fabulous ‘Wishing Line’ project for the evening too, where children and adults can decorate their own pint-sized cardboard t-shirt with their wishes and hang it outside the gallery on the wishing line. There is no charge for the facepainting or balloon-animals, though parents are welcome to tip the two featured guest artists.

Dogwood (Located in the alley behind D-Sport on Walnut)
Ampersand was created by Danielle Langdon and Aron Fischer, both currently living in Columbia, as a way to showcase designers, makers and artists from around the nation through a pop-up shop. This one night only event will highlight designers works from Chicago, IL, Philadelphia, PA, Anapolis, MD, Nashville, TN and Columbia, MO. As a new resident at Dogwood Studios, Aron will be highlighting these pieces in Dogwood’s gallery during Artrageous on July 18th.

Grindstone Lithography Workshop
During the July Artrageous event Grindstone Studio is featuring “Image, Ideas, Imagination” Illustration artwork by Robert Stack. They will be doing a live Litho printing of Robert’s newest piece.

Imago Gallery & Cultural Center (new gallery on Broadway near Hitt St)
Un:Veiled photographer Shalonda Farrow [http://imagocomo.org/2014/06/unveiled/] will be leading a “Texture Selection” activity and gourmet popcorn will be provided by Como Gopo [https://www.facebook.com/comogopo].

Dawn Van Scoik is a mostly self-taught photographer whose work is largely inspired by nature and who enjoys the way in which a scene can unfold serendipitously before her.
Henry Muller is a Hickman High School student. He started playing when he was 5, but became re energized the summer of 2013. Henry’s favorite type of music is pop-punk.

Mustard Seed Fair Trade
To celebrate favorite artists of yesteryear, the Seed will be spinning records  this Friday! Plus, they will have local artists Laurie Spate-Smith & Lori Kilfoil of Little Library Box [http://littlelibrarybox.com/] to share their lovable library boxes with you. Laurie & Lori are retired Columbia Public School teachers who share their love of reading and DIY inspired art with their neighbors and friends by making one-of-a-kind library boxes. These ladies take their love of reading and ART to the next level…

Orr Steet Studios
Orr Street Studios is once again showcasing the amazingly talented, FUN and LOUD Collegiate Stars Brass Band on the patio! Plenty of space for dancing in the newly paved alley. The sound bouncing off the walls of the new apartment complex will make this an evening to remember! When you need to cool off, step back inside for a glass of wine, some nibbles of food and a chat with one of our many artists who will be in their studios. A model painting demonstration will be lead by painter Jane Mudd, among other visiting artists.

Poppy
Go to the corner of 10th and Broadway to celebrate two CoMO artists: Elle Benage and Matt Smith. Elle’s watercolor map series grew from her love of travel as a way to document all of the states and countries she and her husband have visited together. Matt is a local woodworker who handcrafts his pieces using primarily recycled and salvaged wood from small independent sawmills around Missouri. Both will be on hand to discuss their work and demonstrate how it’s made during the July Artrageous.

PS: Gallery
PS Gallery will host the Como Girls Rock directors during the July Artrageous. They’ll be showcasing a video of the performances and there will also be a button maker project for kiddos to create their own buttons!

The Center Project (one block east of the bus station at 300 St James St #104)
Stop in and show your tasteful tattoos and favorite hair designs. In July the Project will feature Artrageous hair & body art in combination with the monthly Under 21 Mixer. Test out a temporary tattoo design or hair color with your friends, and see art and pottery from local artist Dana Hartgrove. The Center Project is mid-Missouri’s LGBT community center. They strive to create a safe and friendly space for all sexual orientations and gender identities.

Yellow Dog Bookshop (new on 9th St)
During Artrageous, the window display will feature a design by Aron Fischer complete with birch trees, hand sewn mushrooms, antiques & plants (provided by Helmi’s Gardens). Aron received his BFA in Studio Art from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and will complete his MFA from the University of Missouri – Columbia in December 2014. In between his BFA and MFA he was a Senior Display Coordinator for Anthropologie. Aron has been awarded residencies in Columbia, MO and Deer Isle, ME at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts. He has show in New York State, Boston, Chicago and L.A. Aron is living and working in Columbia, MO with his husband, John Cummins, and their two dogs, Toby & Jack.
Additionally, Jessie Starbuck will have drawings on display at the shop for Artrageous Friday! Jessie Starbuck has her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design & her Master’s degree in Teaching from Columbia College. Her work is influenced by many techniques often exploring the intersection of drawing from observation with abstract, uncontrolled painting techniques.

“We Always Swing” Jazz Series
Visit the Jazz Series Club House on 21 N Tenth Street for Artrageous Friday! Explore the library, learn about all the great artists coming to Columbia for our 20th anniversary season and enjoy some refreshments.

Columbia Access Television (CAT) (23 N Tenth St)
During the July AF, CAT will be projecting three short films that were created at the end of the last school year by the Lee Expressive Arts Silent Film Club (3rd, 4th and 5th graders). CAT also will be serving light refreshments and sharing with visiting guests the many benefits of CAT membership.
The films:
— ’The House on Maple Street’ – watch as a young woman purchases her first home, only to encounter an unwanted ghostly presence.
— ’The Mad Unicorn’ – kids, unicorns and leprechauns, oh my!
— ’The Bullying’ – how can a small group of friends work together to overcome an incident of bullying?

The last Artrageous of this year will be a whole weekend of events on October 10-12, 2014. The regular Friday event will be from 6-9 pm, the Boone County Art Show (sponsored by the Columbia Art League) will run all weekend, plus more!
