Movies
This week, Forum 8 Theater is showing Yogi Bear (2010) [PG]. The summer movies are $1 per person, and show every weekday at 10 am.
This week, at Regal Stadium 14 Theater, Turbo is showing on Tuesday, and Walking With Dinosaurs is showing on Wednesday; both rated PG. The Summer Movie Express movies are $1 per person, and begin at 10 am.
At Ragtag this Wednesday at 6 pm, The Crossing is sponsoring O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000) [PG-13], with discussion following.
Music
This Sunday at 7 pm, is the final concert in the Shelter Insurance Summer Concert Series, featuring Lisa Rose with Hot House and Margaret Bianchetta.
Kids’ Events
On Thursday, at 3:30 pm, the MU Museum of Art & Archaeology kids event is mixed media self portraits (grades K-8 ages). Call 573-882-3591 to register.
On Saturday, from 10-11 am, the Lowe’s Build & Grow Clinic is building a Turbo Taco Truck. Register at www.lowesbuildandgrow.com.
On Saturday from 10 am to 12 pm, the monthly Orscheln Farm & Home Kids Clinic is “Make a Jellyfish”. The activity is available at both locations.
For families, Bass Pro has a PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Family Event on Saturday and Sunday, from 12-4 pm.
As always, the Columbia Public Library has loads of events for kids from age 0, and more for older kids for the summer. Many programs are related to the Summer Reading Program with a theme of science this year. This week’s offerings include Adventures in Nutrition, Storyteller Jim May, Marty Hahne—The Reading Magician, and Project Teen—Trivia at the End of the World. Some programs require registration. Computer
The Columbia Public Library continually offers lots of computer classes and training, including Design It With Publisher, Internet Basics, Basic Mac Skills, and using Tumblr and Instagram. These classes require registration. In addition, the public library regularly offers Drop-In Internet and Computer Assistance. The computer/technology offerings are provided in the Training Center on the second floor. See the FCMo calendar for details.

In preparation for the Aug 5th election, the League of Women Voters of Columbia-Boone County is hosting a forum about candidates on Tuesday and a forum on election issues on Thursday, at the Columbia Public Library. Both events will be in the Friends Room from 6:30-8:30 pm, with refreshments at 6 pm.
DC Entertainment (DC Comics) has declared Jul 23, 2014, as Batman Day (75th anniversary). Barnes & Noble is having a Batman 75th Anniversary Event at 11 am. While GoHastings in Jefferson City is giving away a free special edition Batman comic on that day, I cannot find information that Slackers or Rock Bottom Comics have anything planned, but will let you know if anything comes to light!
Every Wednesday, from 8-10 pm: Laws Observatory is open from 8-10 pm (weather permitting, closed holiday evenings) at the top of the MU Physics Building.
On Saturday, from 7:30-10 pm, see the endangered gray bats fly out of Devil’s Icebox Cave at Rock Bridge Memorial State Park. You can explore Connor’s Cave and participate in more activities. Recommended for ages 7 to adult. Register at 573-449-7400.
