Tomorrow, Wed, Jul 23, 2014, is Batman Day! What is that? Well, DC Entertainment (DC Comics) has designated this day to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the comic that introduced Batman to the world, along with the opening of Comic-Con in San Diego. More info in this Los Angeles Daily News article: http://www.dailynews.com/arts-and-entertainment/20140718/why-july-23-is-batman-day.

Accordingly, there is a special edition Batman comic, available for free. Note: The free comics are only available while supplies last. Here is what we know regarding activities in Columbia:

  • Barnes & Noble, in Columbia Mall, as part of their Get Pop-Cultured series, is participating with a Batman event, starting at 11 am. Highlights include a Batman exclusive comic book giveaway (limited supplies) of a special edition 75th anniversary collector’s issue featuring the original Batman story (issue #27) and Brad Meltzer’s re-imagined story of Batman’s origins (#27 New 52 series); giveaways of bags, bookmarks and buttons and the chance to win a Mini Bat Signal.
  • Rock Bottom Comics, on Walnut St (downtown), will be open at 11:30 am, and is giving away the free special edition comic.
  • Slackers: I called yesterday evening, and they do not appear to be participating in Batman Day.
