Inspired by the Saturday Morning Science series of talks, the University of Missouri (MU)  Honors College was created a new humanities series: Speaking of Culture. This series is offered during the fall and spring semesters at Orr Street Studios, on the second Saturday of the month at 2 pm, with coffee and baked treats. From their Website: Speaking of Culture is a monthly series produced by MU’s Honors College for the enjoyment of the entire Columbia community. Modeled on the acclaimed Saturday Morning Science series, Speaking of Culture will feature each month an MU faculty member from some area of the Humanities, who will talk accessibly about a subject of professional or personal significance. This afternoon at Orr Street Studios at 2 pm is “What I Learned about the Liberal Arts by Becoming a Marathon Runner and Weightlifter at 52” by Patricia Okker, Professor of English and Deputy Provost.

Access Arts has also started a wonderful Visiting Artist Lecture series. Unfortunately, this is also scheduled on the second Saturday of the month at 2 pm, so during the fall and spring semesters, you will have to choose! This afternoon at Access Arts at 2 pm is Leandra Spangler, a local fiber artist, discussing her work in papermaking and sculpture.  Following her presentation will be a question and answer session.

Find the talks with details for both of these series on the FCMo calendar in the right column.
