Saturday, October 25, 2014
- 10 am-12 pm: Kids Clinic – Origami Bat. Orscheln Farm & Home, 3300 Paris Rd AND 3910 S Providence Rd, Columbia MO.
- 10 am-6 pm: Halloween ComicFest. Rock Bottom Comics & Slackers (both downtown), 1013 E Walnut St Suite 101 AND 1010 E Broadway, Columbia MO. Free selected comics available while supplies last.
- 11-11:30 am: Halloween Storytime. Children’s area, Barnes & Noble, 2208 Bernadette Dr, Columbia MO 65203. Fans of the ‘Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type’ series will love this new title destined to be a Halloween classic – Click, Clack, Boo!: A Tricky Treat. Halloween Storytime with fun-filled giveaways and activities.
- 1-4 pm: Hy-Vee Halloween Party / Fall Festival (kids). All three locations. Come to the Halloween Party! This is a free event for kids, including a candy corn trail mix for the kids to make, mini pumpkin decorating, cookie decorating, and a coloring activity. The first 100 kids who show up in costume will receive a free trick-or-treat bag that they can use at the Halloween Walk on Friday, October 31st.

- 1-3 pm: Trick or Treat! Clovers Natural Market, 2100 Chapel Plaza Ct, Columbia MO. Kids in costumes will get hauntingly healthy Halloween treats. There will be ghoulishly good samples throughout the store and coloring pages available to take home.

- 7 pm: Stephens Haunted History Stories. Second floor lobby, Lela Raney Wood Hall, Stephens College, 6 N College Ave, Columbia MO. Longtime faculty member Margaret Campbell will tell some tales about Stephens’ supposedly haunted past. She will begin her ghostly storytelling at 7 pm in the second floor lobby of Wood Hall.
- 7-8:15 pm: A Ghostly Time of the Year (teens & adults). Friends Room, Columbia Public Library, 100 W Broadway, Columbia MO. Many countries and cultures have ghostly traditions. All Hallows’ Eve was an unsettled time of the year in pagan and early Christian Europe. As the days shortened, bonfires and other rituals took place because supernatural beings might be about at night. Mary Barile, author of “The Haunted Boonslick” and “Forgotten Tales of Missouri” will tell us more about how European folk traditions and Native American beliefs gave rise to a wealth of American ghost stories.

- 5-8 pm: It’s the Great Pumpkin Halloween activities. Bass Pro Shops, 3101 Bass Pro Dr, Columbia MO. Free glow-in-the dark glasses for the first 100 kids, plus get a free photo and Peanuts®-themed coloring sheets. Free craft: Decorate a stuffed owl.
- 5:30-7:30 pm: Trick or Treat Through Missouri History. The State Historical Society of Missouri, 1020 Lowry St, Columbia MO. Come in costume to this fun and educational family event. Candy will be available, as well as crafts, activities, and information about topics such as Missouri ghosts, pumpkins, and bats. Brave visitors can also explore the Kid’s Cave and the Ghostly Gallery and enjoy a tour guided by the “spirit” of Eliza Bingham, second wife of Missouri’s famed painter George Caleb Bingham.
- 6-8 pm: Safe Trick-or-Treat. Kimball Ballroom, Lela Raney Wood Hall, Stephens College, 6 N College Ave, Columbia MO. Mortar Board will host its annual Safe Trick-or-Treat event for the Columbia community from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28. Children are invited to come in costume and trick-or-treat for candy at various stations in the Kimball Ballroom of Lela Raney Wood Hall. Stephens students are encouraged to participate, as well.
- 6-8 pm: Trick-or-Treat Through Greek Town (University of Missouri). Maps of Greek Town and the sorority houses will be available at the info table on E Rollins St in front of Kappa Delta, E Rollins St and Tiger Ave, Columbia MO. Dress in costume and visit some of the sororities, where members will pass out candy on their front lawns at E Rollins St starting at front of Kappa Delta. Parking is available after 5 pm at Turner Avenue Garage (TAG). Stankowski Field lot on Tiger Ave and street parking are free after 6 pm.

- 6-9 pm: Haunted Observatory. Laws Observatory, MU Physics Bldg, 701 S College Ave, Columbia MO. For one night only, the ghosts of dead astronomers haunt the Laws Observatory on the MU campus. They are shepherded by special guests from the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where they learn both astronomy and how to interact with ghosts. There will be candy, “treasure” hunts and surprises.
- 6:30-8:30 pm: Trunk-or-Treat. Parking lot, Faith Baptist Church, 3909 Brown Station Road, Columbia MO. Rain or shine. Go from car trunk to car trunk and get candy. Puppet shows & inflatables for kids. Chili, hot dogs, and hot chocolate. Drawing for $100 Wal-Mart shopping card.

- 6-6:45 pm: Family Costume Ball (age 3+) (Friends Rm). Columbia Public Library, 100 W. Broadway, Columbia, MO. Register at 573-443-3161. Come dressed in costume and ready to twirl to the music of fiddler Tom Verdot, guitarist Thom Howard, keyboardist Marcie McGuire and flutist Rebecca Logan. Dance caller Jim Thaxter will take you and your child through simple circle and line dances. Remember, costumes should be easy to dance in!
- 7-9 pm: Hocus Pocus (1993) [PG] [1:35]. The Shack, MU Student Center, 901 E Rollins St, Columbia MO. Games and food.
- 7 pm: Twilight Walking Tour – Ghosts and Other Scary Tales. Meet at City Hall Key sculpture (downtown), 701 E Broadway, Columbia MO. This event is free and open to the public (and is family-friendly). No registration is required. Tours will begin promptly at 7:00 PM. Participants are advised to wear comfortable shoes and clothing.
Friday, October 31, 2014 (Happy Halloween!)
- 4-6 pm: Halloweenie (kids). Downtown Columbia. A safe and fun time for the little ones in The District. Trick-or-treat at your favorite stores and restaurants. Find the Halloweenie sign at the entrance of participating venues.
- 4-7 pm: Hy-Vee Halloween Walk (kids). All three locations. Visit treat stations throughout the store.

Costume parade: Kids (12 and under) start lining up at 6pm. Participants will receive a free Kid’s Owl Drawstring Bag, and the winner will receive a $10 gift card. - 5-7 pm: SPOOKtacular! (kids to age 12). Concourse, MU Hearnes Center, 600 E Stadium Blvd, Columbia MO. This event will be in the Hearnes Center Concourse prior to the Mizzou volleyball game. Formerly known as Tiger Night of Fun, this event is a safe alternative to door-to-door trick or treating! Come out for an evening filled with activities, games and treats.
- 6-7:30 pm: Trunk or Treat. Trinity Lutheran Church, 2201 W Rollins Rd, Columbia MO 65203. A safe and fun environment for children and adults. Car trunks will be decorated and full of candy and goodies. Everyone is welcome. Music, prizes, tattoos, games, treats, bounce house.
- 6-8 pm: Fall Festival (ages 0-12). Christian Fellowship Church, 4600 Christian Fellowship Rd, Columbia MO. The Christian Fellowship Fall Festival is a family-friendly, safe, and fun alternative to Trick or Treating. We fill the entire church facility with bounce houses, games, and fun for kids of every age. We give out candy at every game booth and a child should be able to leave with plenty of candy to satisfy them! Most children who attend (as well as many adults) come in costumes. However, costumes are not required. In order to maintain an environment where even the smallest children feel safe, we ask that you choose non-scary costumes.
- 7-8:30 pm: Party With the Stars (ages 6+). Enter through Gene Martin Secret Garden, Columbia Public Library, 100 W Broadway, Columbia MO. The moon will dominate the sky this Halloween night! Come learn why the bright moon was important to early civilizations and talk about the latest discoveries of NASA’s orbiting spacecraft. Everyone will get a free moon map, and, weather permitting, we’ll go outside for telescopic views of spectacular lunar seas and craters. (Keep an eye out for non-astronomical flying things up in front of the moon, too! Costumes optional!) Hosted by Val Germann and co-sponsored by the Central Missouri Astronomical Association. Enter through the Gene Martin Secret Garden, west end of main parking lot.
